The Peugeot 308 which has already been awarded three prizes in just one year (the Golden Steering Wheel, a Guinness Record, and Engine of the Year), packs in the best technology and design to offer an intense driving experience with a refined character. This outstanding result is also combined with one of the lowest CO2 emission and fuel savings.
The 2007 Golden Steering Wheel award
Since its launch, the Peugeot 308 has been awarded the 2007 Goldene Lenkrad (Golden Steering Wheel) in Berlin for the compact saloon cars category. This prestigious award has been presented since 1976 by the major German weekly Bild am Sonntag.
Upon the completion of in-depth tests and examinations, the judging panel declared that the Peugeot 308 was the model that best fulfilled criteria relating to style, design, comfort, roadhandling, safety, environmental friendliness, quality, etc.
2007 and 2008 Engine of the Year
The 4-cylinder 175 hp Direct Injection Turbo engine confirmed its performance in 2008. For the second year running it was chosen out of 71 competing engines as the "International Engine of the Year" for 2008 in the category for engines with a cubic capacity from 1.4 l to 1.8 l. The reason for this success is the exacting attention devoted to the development of this engine, which is the result of co-operation between PSA Peugeot Citroën and the BMW Group.
Guinness Record for fuel savings
The 308, which is fitted with the 1.6 l HDi 80 kW (≈110 hp) engine with a FAP filter, broke the Guinness record for fuel savings with an average consumption of 3.13 l per 100 km and CO2 emissions limited to 85 g/km. The 308 travelled 1,919 km running on one full 60-litre tank.
Environmental efficiency was a major concern during the development of the 308: one of the development focus being the FAP filter. The 308 was also fitted with Michelin Energy Saver tyres, which enable roll resistance to be reduced by 20% and the vehicle’s recyclability level to be increased, which amounts to 99% of the weight of the 308.
