The Peugeot brand sold 2.1 million new vehicles in 2017, demonstrating strong growth acceleration, with worldwide sales up 10.4%. Of particular note, the lion-brand sold nearly 600,000 SUVs in 2017, recording +60% growth in SUV segments.
With 259,300 Peugeot 3008 SUVs sold globally in 2017, the Peugeot brand enjoyed sustained demand for the model, crowned Car of the Year 2017 in Europe and recognised by 38 additional awards worldwide, including Irish Car of the Year 2018 in association with Continental. Peugeot also benefitted from continued demand for the popular compact 2008 SUV, second on its podium in Europe in 2017. The launch of the much-anticipated new 5008 7-seat SUV has been heralded a clear success, with 85,900 units sold since its European launch in March 2017.
On the light commercial vehicle front, thanks to a strong performance from the new Expert van, Irish Van of the Year 2017, Peugeot saw a sales growth of +12.7% in Europe (Europe 18). Alongside the Citroen brand, the two brands together now represent 20.2% of the overall European light commercial vehicle market. Indeed, the PSA Group reported its best ever van sales ever in 2017, with a total of 476,500 units sold.
Jean-Philippe Imparato, Chief Executive Officer at Peugeot, said: “2017 was an exceptional year, with record high results for Peugeot. We beat our target of selling two million vehicles, largely due to strong demand for our SUV and light commercial vehicle line-ups, on top of solid performances from our conventional Peugeot 208 models and the new 308. The brand increased volumes sold, as well as market share in five out of six regions. Peugeot has successfully moved upmarket and is continuing to expand internationally with sales outside Europe now representing 45% of the worldwide total.”
The global Peugeot sales figures for 2017 have been released, just as the first 20-day sales figures for 2018 indicate the lion-brand is the fastest growing car brand in Ireland; Peugeot passenger cars have demonstrated 61.9% growth in Ireland, up to the 20th January 2018, the highest growth percentage from any car brand, year to date.
